WATER CONSERVATION AND MANAGEMENT
Rainwater Harvesting is the process of collecting, storing, and using rainwater for various purposes, rather than allowing it to run off. It is an ancient and sustainable practice that helps conserve water, reduce dependency on groundwater, and minimize urban flooding.

Here’s a clear explanation of the three important terms in Rainwater Harvesting:

Recollect
Recollect refers to the process of capturing and collecting rainwater from rooftops, paved areas, or open surfaces. The water is directed through gutters and pipes into storage tanks or recharge structures. This step ensures that valuable rainwater is not wasted as surface runoff.

Reuse
Reuse means using the harvested rainwater directly for daily needs such as gardening, washing, toilet flushing, or even treated for drinking and cooking. This reduces dependency on groundwater and municipal water supply, saving fresh water resources.

Recharge
Recharge involves allowing collected rainwater to percolate into the ground through recharge pits, borewells, trenches, or soakaways. This step helps restore the groundwater table, prevents over-extraction, and maintains the natural water cycle.
